Entries were taken until October 19th and in November Facebook began reviewing them to choose the winners.

One time I was presenting my “startup comedy” at a university. A student asked me if startups were a different kind of business, and from there (happily) several people jumped in and carried on the conversation. Pedro Mifano Motoryn and Maria Isabel Miranda have launched a beta site for their startup, which is an employment site for startups that lists job openings and professional profiles for employees.
The idea for MaisStartup was born when Pedro and Maria Isabel looked at the gap in the market for startup employment. Traditional job placement services and websites didn’t have a category for startups. “We aren’t like other sites: it’s not just about building your resume or furthering your career. Some people want to be part of something bigger, to learn about entrepreneurship and to work in an entrepreneurial environment,” explains the MaisStartup site. Read more…

The 10th Latin Moot Corp business plan competition wrapped up on Saturday. In the morning venture capitalists and market analysts evaluated the presentations of four teams who were finalists from the two divisions critiqued the day before. The Division I finalists (I was one of the evaluators) were Redu and Terminal Logistíca (chosen as best presentation and best written business plan). Division II finalists were Wifli (best presentation) and Sayyou (best written plan). The overall winner was Sayyou. Read more…

Brazilian developers, start your engines! It’s time to show your talent as a developer at the 2nd Yahoo! Open Hack Day, taking place March 20-21 in São Paulo, Brazil.
This is a Brazilian spin-off of the traditional Yahoo! Open Hack Day which originally took place on the Sunnyvale campus and now has versions in London, Bangalore, New York and Djakarta. The last Open Hack Day in Brazil (in November 2008) was a tremendous success, with approximately 200 participants and thousands of cool hacks! Read more…
