Desafio Brasil (”Challenge Brazil”) is a competition for tech startups (from IT to biotech to clean tech) involving pitching, mentoring and networking as competitors progress through the levels to the finals. Crunchies Awards: Big names get together to give Gorillas to the best startups

January 8th was the third annual Crunchies Awards, sponsored by the internet technology blog TechCrunch.

The event took place in partnership with GigaOM (see their recently referenced cloud computing article here) and VentureBeat (which has previously written about Brazil as the next frontier in social advertising).

More than 900 people gathered in the Herbst Theatre in San Francisco for the awarding of the trophies to the best entrepreneurs, investors and startups in the world.
