More than 900 people gathered in the Herbst Theatre in San Francisco for the awarding of the trophies to the best entrepreneurs, investors and startups in the world.
Semana Global de Empreendedorismo (Global Entrepreneurship Week), with its slogan “Make it Happen” (Bota pra fazer), is an event designed to awaken the entrepreneurial spirit. This year it is being held simultaneously in 90 countries.
In Brazil the event is being led by the Endeavor Institute, and there will be lectures, workshops, games, fairs and other initiatives taking place around Brazil, to help make you more enterprising.
Startupi will be participating in two ways: 1) I will be the official Tweeter of the Week, doing the coverage of several activities; 2) and Startupi has joined with the Microsoft SOL (Startups On Line) program and the system of innovation for social businesses at The Hub in São Paulo to promote a special event. The bubble bursts: it’s a frightening expression. Not like “hyperactivity” or “nerd” which have acquired a positive (and era-defining) connotation. The bubble bursting: an act or effect of business and investment standards which cannot sustain itself. A lack of vision, performance, or prospects?
The world has experienced several crises, such as the first Internet bubble in 2001. Credit for that went to novelty and expectations, which weren’t moving in step with reality’s comportment nor with business practices. It wasn’t the first localized crisis to have world wide effects, nor the first to be overcome slowly.
This year, when Barack Obama assumed the presidency of the United States, he said hope for the country to overcome the crisis lay with small, innovative businesses. What luck, then, that in Brazil as well as overseas, incentives for digital culture and entrepreneurism are in vogue, expressed in so many kinds of events. Read more…
