Tuesday was the first day of the four-day long YouPix event, and the Best of the Web finalists were announced. 200 people involved in the Brazilian internet did the voting, and narrowed all the submissions down to a list of five finalists in each of 18 categories, ranging from serious to silly. I was at Campus Party when I ran into Millor Machado (who blogs at Saia do Lugar, along with Luiz Piovesana) and heard about his idea for this project. It was a blog that would centralize the posts of other blogs and sell advertising jointly across the participating blogs. He said ReadWriteWeb Brasil (run by Diego Gomes) was the other blog participating in the project, and and he invited Startupi to join. In his visit to Brazil this week, Facebook founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg (pictured at left) announced a Brazilian Applications Challenge. Aiming at the development of third party applications within Facebook’s own site, as well as integration with external sites, the challenge will offer prize money to Brazilian developers.
Mark has involved the press, bloggers and students in his first visit to Brazil. He arrived Sunday night and stayed in São Paulo, where on the following day he gave interviews and participated in a chat with invited bloggers (including myself).
