The Web of the Future

futurodawebI recently read two articles that really made me think. I want to share them with you and ask your opinion.

The Internet & American Life Project, from the Pew Research Center and the Imagining the Internet Center of Elon University, interviewed 800 recognized market experts to see what they thought the internet would be like in 2020. Read Write Web published an article on this, including statements by Clay Shirky, Nicholas Carr and other industry figures.

Another inspiring and provocative read about the future of the web is a column in The Observer, from the newspaper The Guardian. The interviewee (for part of a series called My Bright Idea) is Jaron Lanier, a musician, creator of virtual reality and activist for internet freedoms. In the interview, Jaron explains the idea of “digital maoism,” as described in his manifesto/book “You Are Not a Gadget,” and explains why it would be better for people if Web 2.0 took on new forms.

What do you think about these questions? How do you want the web to be? How do you think it will be?
