Wisdowl: Media Insights

Yesterday I was at FGV to follow the Latin Moot Corp. Most of the competitors are not doing web-related work, but I watched presentations by three web startups. The first of these was Wisdowl. It’s a system for monitoring and making clippings from social networks, blogs and news sites for doing brand analysis. The tool still hasn’t launched but its creators have a good working algorithm. Carlos Santana, one of the founders, said they need about 500K in investment to get to that point. The partners, four in total, have invested 45K of their own money.
To be honest I wasn’t very clear on how the media tracking is done. Apparently the system doesn’t crawl all blogs and filter for keywords the way Livestream from Blogblogs does, for example. The blogs to be monitored are selected by hand, as are news sites or social networks.
Although I think the idea has a great future - I wrote before about media and brand monitoring here on Startupi - I think their team is strong on people with business knowledge (alumni of Ibmec) but there’s a gap on the technology side. The big thing in their favor is that Wisdowl has a very good search algorithm. But Livestream from Blogblogs delivers real-time feeds and is up and running and open. That is, efficient search already exists.
