Will collaborative apps save the world?

novoweaverSocial, environmental and economic leaders are meeting in Copenhagen to discuss how to make human development more sustainable for the planet.  That is, there are failings and missteps humanity has made with respect to environmentally sound, socially just and economically viable activities.

Despite this, most of humanity carries on in their cities, having at any moment - both collectively and individually - attitudes that have positive and negative effects in these areas. How can we arrive at a better notion of how we are really doing? Well, there’s a collaborative mashup  being adopted by some citizens and organizations. It allows each person to map what they are doing to make the world a better place.

The Map below shows people, companies and institutions that are weaving, with the Internet, a better furture for our planet. Connect with them. Listen to what they are saying.Click here and Take this action tou your website.

I received this app from Marina Miranda, of Peabirus, which uses content to connect people with common interests to encourage joint activities. The app is not fine art - neither in appearance nor in technical sophistication or efficiency. It didn’t take much time to develop. But it also doesn’t take much effort or time for people to use it and pass it on.

Simple solutions like this are out there in droves, each one positioned to provide value. They are certainly good examples of how technical entrepreneurs and social entrepreneurs can work together. And it serves, at least, to demonstrate the potential the Internet has to mobilize people to work together on common interests.

It’s worth remembering that Antonio Carlos Amorim - also from Peabirus - is participating in the meeting in Copenhagen and is representing Brazilian interests. Do you have a message to add to the discussions? A question? Something you are curious about? An example or tip? Leave it in our comments!
