captura-de-tela-2009-09-29-as-1204001Developers, researchers, activists, journalists, lobbyists and other interested parties are invited to attend a special event this weekend in São Paulo. The Transparecy HackDay will be a collaborative task force to develop small applications based on open technologies, government information and public data.

The organizers explain, “this will be a weekend with the potential for creating excellent political apps - everything will be released under free licenses, with documentation and open source code. In addition to delivering these technologies to the community, the idea of Transparency HackDay is also to generate discussion around how we want our government to express its views on the Internet, how we should ensure the availability of public data, how we can encourage the understanding, availability and effective use of public information on the net.”

About Esfera: “Esfera is a project (in a very early stage) by Daniela Silva and Pedro Markun, with a focus on communication, politics and new technologies. We want to see the same revolution in methods, values and principles that new technologies have brought to communication, happen in politics. To this end, we act in the interests of transparency, openness and collaboration, through our projects focused on empowering citizens, through actions designed to encourage culture linked to these values, and through other initiatives. Our intention is to encourage the idea that open government can be enhanced by the dynamics of networks. We still don’t know exactly how, but while we study it, we are debating with friends and trying to discover the best forms of action; from there come our small provocations. The clone of Blog do Planalto was the first of these. These “group efforts” which we are launching little by little, invite users to experiment and engage, and are part of our broader idea.”
