The show must go on: events for everyone to follow
Diego Remus on September 03, 2009
In the final days of August we could follow (in person or on the web) an array of Brazilian events related to the participative web. Some are more niche, but even so they are relevant in their context. They show that the Internet matters in Brazil. In September, there are as many events.
I did only follow them indirectly (without attending them) - otherwise I could spend a whole year just writing about them. I resolved instead to make a list of the events here, with a brief description of each, indicating the related websites and comments from participants.
Digital Age 2.0: among other big-name speakers you’ll find the founder of YouTube and the CEO of Zappos (both in Brazil for the first time). See comments on Twitter here and here, and also presentations from the speakers, videos, and highlight quotes here;
MS TechEd: a Microsoft meetup. See comments on Twitter here;
EdTed: Roving digital design and technology meetup. See comments on Twitter here;
Luluzinha Camp: national edition of a regular meetup for women in the Internet space. See comments on Twitter here;
Chat about e-commerce and social media: meetup to exchange experiences with specialists in e-commerce, especially in social networks.
It’s interesting that, besides these events, good updates and networking on these subjects can also be had through courses. There are various courses coming up. Some that got my attention:
- ESPM/CIC: Startups, the creative economy, and entrepreneurship in a digital era, taught by Gil Giardelli;
- ESPM: Advanced course in Marketing and Digital Communication, coordinated by Marcelo Cabianco;
- FGV/PEC: Competitive Intelligence in social networks, coordinated by Marcelo Coutinho.
And there’s more:
- Desafio Brasil: (today) the business plan competition will hold mentoring panels and workshops with investors for participants and all interested;
- Twestival: an international event that’s grown out of the capacity to mobilize Twitter to raise funds for social and environmental causes. The next one will be September 11-13;
- Blogcamp: “where the Brazilian blogs meet up”. A community grows around this open air “un-conference”. The next one happens in Rio de Janeiro on September 5th. See comments on Twitter here;
- TEDxSP: local and independent version of the famous TED, an event about the best ideas in technology, entertainment and design. October 10th. Follow on Twitter;
- Symposium of Escola de Redes (School of the Web): “A escola é a rede” (”The school is the web”). “The web is not an instrument for making change. It already is change!” What more could you need to know about this community/concept? It all ends with pizza on September 9th in São Paulo;
- Enecomp: National Congress of Students in Computing, September 4-8 in Curitiba.
Did you go or will you go to any of these events? Tell us in the comments!
