The end of the year marks a new phase for Videolog

logo_videolog_v04plusBrazil’s Silicon Valley continues to throw out one surprise after another. Videolog, for example, is a Rio-based company in a constant state of innovation, both technological and in terms of engaging audiences. Some news this year has been very positive.

For those who don’t recall, Videolog launched a little before YouTube and functions similarly: Users make profiles and upload videos, create channels, and leave comments. It supports high resolution video. You may also know that in 2007 Videolog was presented at Google’s headquarters as an example of innovation in cultural production and digital inclusion. (Check out the video at minute 6:22). What Videolog does better than YouTube is local engagement and TiVi - a system that supports video hosting and transmission from various sources.

Towards the end of the year Videolog received the Rio Info prize and was nominated for the second time for the Info/Exame prize. (Update: they were also selected by the jury as one of the 49 startups to watch in 2010, at ResultsON.) They have participated as speakers and invited guests at various national and international events. And they continued the task of getting their tool included in WordPress. This means that WordPress now comes with the automatic option of embedding videos from Videolog.

Videolog was one of the most active hubs of content with users interviewing entrepreneurs and giving statements to encourage entrepreneurial culture in Brazil.

The growth in user base, number of videos, video duration and amount of time spent watching have also grown significantly.

And there is more news about Videolog- but this will wait for another post. For all this and more, congratulations to Mackeenzy, Ariel, and the entire team.
