ReadWriteWeb promotes event about real-time internet, launches Brazilian blog

ReadWriteWeb is a blog that provides analysis and covers trends relating to the internet and web technologies. It was created in 2003 by New Zealander Richard MacManus. This month RWW is promoting an event about real-time internet and is kicking off blogs in five countries, including Brazil. The blogs are written in the local languages and speak to the local realities. The Brazilian version, in Portuguese, launched today.
Do real-time services require real-time people?
What is the potential, and what are the pitfalls of using the real-time internet for networking, media, financial services, humanitarian work, politics? How will the ubiquity of real-time information change the internet in the future? What will make this possible?
How will this change user expectations? How can small organizations use the real-time web to challenge those involved? How will they survive in a real-time environment? How can we deal - technically and culturally - with a real-time information overload?
These and other issues relating to one of the top five Internet trends will be discussed at the ReadWrite Real-Time Web Summit, an event organized by ReadWriteWeb. Top guns from Google, Facebook, Yahoo, MySpace and the New York Times have already signed up to participate in the summit, which will take place on October 15th in Mountain View, California.
ReadWriteWeb presentation on web trends, 2009:
Following is an interview with the editor of the new ReadWriteWeb Brazil, Diego Gomes.
How did the idea of RWW-Brazil come about? Did RWW invite you to participate, or did you offer to help them?
We have always been very active in the international RWW community, commenting on posts and discussing their analysis. And RWW always has had a large community of Brazilian readers… I spoke to Bernard Lunn and Richard McManus when they were planning the next strategic move for RWW, and we showed them that Brazil is an emerging market. After that conversation, we closed a deal to take on the business and local operation.
RWW’s global strategy began with RWW France, and continues now with RWW Brazil. Read more about it here.
What is the proposal: what is RWW going to do in Brazil?
We offer very high quality content covering trends in the web market and information for entrepreneurs. We want to help our internet professionals and entrepreneurs develop their knowledge and be up to date with the practices and trends of the global market.
What is the perception you have right now of the internet in Brazil?
The internet in Brazil is experiencing a great moment. We have creative business, strong-willed entrepreneurs, a market with a big growth trend, in contrast to the big markets like the US and Europe, which are showing a decrease in the growth rate. And now we also have this big case of a Brazilian startup’s exit….The sale of Buscapé was so important to show the outside world the level of maturity that we are achieving here.
What do you imagine lies ahead?
We are going to help democratize access to information for internet professionals, entrepreneurs and investors. We want to help support the sustainable business market around the Brazilian internet. There are so many people developing web technologies, creating real businesses in Brazil - not just producing twitter apps.
How will RWW-Brazil evolve?
What we can say now is that we are creating a low cost business with the intention of being sustainable from the beginning. We are maintaining good quality and depth of analysis, as established by Global ReadWriteWeb. We hope to continue viably, and grow from this base.
